Cataracts are the clouding of the eye’s lens, resulting in blurry, dim, or distorted vision. San Antonio Eye Center is proud to offer Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery. This revolutionary form of surgery uses a laser to create a precise surgical plan with a sophisticated imaging of the eye. It is extremely safe, accurate and is a much improved form of surgery over the traditional manual technology, which uses a hand-held metal or diamond blade to create an incision instead of a laser.
Once the incision is made, then the front portion of the lens capsule must be removed to gain access to the cataract. This step is called the capsulotomy. Studies show that this very important capsulotomy step works better with the laser in terms of accuracy and reproducibility. After the capsulotomy, the surgeon will use the laser to soften the cataract to break it up and successfully remove it.
Extra costs associated with laser cataract surgery are unlikely to be covered by Medicare or private health insurance. Fees vary from one cataract surgeon to another. Please schedule a consultation with our refractive coordinator to learn about our pricing and finance options.
